MAYFLY
Watch with be best quality and sound possible. Thanks!
The idea for this film came to me about five months ago. Funny enough, it was in May when I started thinking about it — and trust me, the pun wasn’t intended. I didn’t come up with a name for the film until July, and it had nothing to do with the month of May. A mayfly is an insect known for having the shortest lifespan of any living creature. When I was looking for a title, I searched for “the living thing with the shortest lifespan,” and the mayfly came up — and boom, that’s how I decided to go with it. For me, it’s meant to be a metaphor for what I’m expressing in the film.
After I finished shooting, I went back to Google to see if the mayfly symbolized anything, and to my surprise, it did. According to Google, it represents the brevity of life — which is actually quite literal.
What led me to make this film was how I was feeling at the time, and honestly, how I’ve been feeling for a while now. In a way, creating this film was therapeutic for me. We’re all still figuring out this life we’re living, so why not take advantage of it while we can? Every shot in this short film is intentional and carries meaning — things I’m not saying vocally, but that I feel deeply.
This was a fun experience and I look forward to working working on more so watch this space.
Music has been huge part of my life especially recently, and I’ve often talked about the power of music in film and its impact on the audience. But music can also influence the storyteller or filmmaker — in this case, me. There were a bunch of songs I listened to constantly during the development of this short film. If you get a chance to listen to the playlist, you’ll get a better sense of how I was feeling during that period. While writing, shooting, and editing, I had this music playing on repeat — and it subconsciously impacted my creative process. That’s the power of music honestly. So listen and vibe out because they’re all viby songs.
